Spotlight on a Fundraiser
This month we are shining a light on Mel Howes, who works as a teacher at Kew Green Preparatory School, and raised money for WLAC participating in The Bridge Run 2025, in Oresundsbron, Denmark on Sunday 15 June, raising an amazing £545!
Mel ran from Denmark to Sweden across the Oresund Bridge, completing a half marathon with a difference. The race involves running 4km through a tunnel at a depth of 21 metres under the sea, before emerging to run across the stretch of the artificial island of Peberholm, then reaching the highest point running across the water on the Bridge itself. The Bridge is 57 meters high so for Mel, who is afraid of heights, this presented a significant challenge. When she was lucky enough to secure a place (which she fully funded herself), she wanted to use it as an opportunity to raise money and awareness for WLAC. We are so grateful and thrilled that Mel has chosen our charity to support. Thank you so much.
On her fundraising page, Mel says,:
“Children's mental health services are pushed to the limit, and I want to take the opportunity to do something positive to make a difference to families in any way that I can. West London Action for Children is the local charity, supported by Kew Green Preparatory School where I currently work. “
